MORIMURA BROS., INC.

Message from our President

Ichizaemon Morimura VI and his younger brother Toyo decided that they should retrieve Japan's fortune, as they were concerned about the unfair foreign currency exchange rate and the growing trade deficit during the last and upheaval days of the Tokugawa shogunate when Japan became open to the world. Taking the advice of Yukichi Fukuzawa, the brothers founded Morimura Gumi, the precursor of MORIMURA BROS., INC., in 1876. They had the desire to commence export trade and upgrade the economic power of Japan as pioneers of international trading.

More founding members then joined them, empathizing with their enthusiasm. Their volition to manufacture and export better products themselves led to their successful development of white porcelain as a result of trial and error, and also helped increase export trade. NORITAKE CO., LIMITED was established as an independent unit separate from the organization.
It was followed by the foundation of TOTO LTD., NGK INSULATORS, LTD., and NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD.
The businesses have established the world's largest ceramic corporate group beyond the domestic market.

We have assisted these affiliates, and the industry as a whole, by importing raw materials and introducing advanced technologies from overseas.
Today, with our feet firmly planted on the ground we are developing our company based on the trust, achievements, experience, and knowledge accumulated by our predecessors. Our finger is on the pulse of the Japanese economy and we closely monitor the increasingly diversified needs of the public which enables us to forecast trends and enter emerging new fields swiftly and decisively to expand our business operations.

Today, dramatic advances in information and telecommunications technology are completely transforming the social and economic structures of society, and Morimura will have a role to play in providing both companies and individuals with products and services as a "Specialist" trading company, in response to emerging needs and the changing environment.
